The ongoing will-they-won't-they story surrounding Xbox and its plans to release some of its games on rival platforms continues apace. After some dubious online scuttlebutt, Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, appears to have inadvertently nullified rumours that this strategy is slowing down.
A leaker who goes by eXtas1s recently claimed that Project Latitude — Xbox's plan to release first-party titles on Nintendo and Sony platforms — is "paused" or "slowed down". They claim the reason for this is the sour response to the news that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is coming to PS5 shortly after the Xbox release.
However, Nadella, in a wider report about Microsoft's fiscal year 2024, seems to suggest the company's approach hasn't changed. "Finally, we brought four of our fan-favorite titles to Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation for the first time, as we continue to extend our content to new platforms," he writes, not before stating Microsoft's intention to bring "great games to more people on more devices".
The rumour did state Project Latitude hasn't been outright cancelled, but the pace of releases will allegedly be slower, and that Gears of War and Halo are "red lines" — seemingly saying these series will remain exclusive.
Whatever the case, it looks as though there's no "pause" on Project Latitude, although it's unknown when more Xbox titles will migrate to PS5, or which ones. If the strategy is unchanged, as Nadella implies here, we will likely know more in the new year following the arrival of Indiana Jones.

Get the Master Chief Collection on PS5 with trophies and pause for as long as you like.
But good to know its still an ongoing process.
Microsoft are free styling it. Nadella himself couldn't tell you what's going to come to PS5 in three years time, because by then he might have changed his mind again
Forza Horizon 5 would be mint! 🙏🏼🤞🏼
Bring Starfield and Avowed to PlayStation!
@LowDefAl @ThomasHL If they genuinely don't know what they're doing, like you imply, that's staggering for a company as large as Microsoft.
Personally I think they're just trying to have their cake and eat it.
The response for indy coming to ps5 was sour?
Technically it might not be anymore games for ps5.
Could just be talking about switch(2) and various other tvs etc following fire stick.
But yeah the whole messaging is just messy.
All I want is that if they (aka Bethesda) ever make The Evil Within 3, it’s available on PlayStation…
@Danloaded I thought this, not heard anything negative really, I presume it was the Xboxers that were sour with it not being exclusive, I think in general PS users are happy it's coming and I am sure if it is half decent it will sell pretty well.
@get2sammyb Obviously
They are betting that they can get additional revenue from releasing games on other platforms while keeping their console audience at least intact. That's why ports are coming slowly. Because they need to observe and learn.
That's why you will never hear definitive "all games will sooner or later come to PlayStation," because even Microsoft doesn't know. I would not be surprised if they didn't currently know if they will release The Elder Scrolls VI on PlayStation 5 day one.
And for this exact reason I'm baffled by people who thinks that it's given that all Xbox games will come to PlayStation, like it's a sure thing.
That's an awful weird, knee-jerk reaction to a simple rumor. The CEO of Microsoft makes the announcement? Xbox software sales numbers must REALLY be down. I would still love to see AoE2, Forza and Starfield on PS5. Even if Starfield is a borefest.
@get2sammyb I dunno, Xbox have been operating in "headless chicken" mode longer than they haven't. They had their own identity up until they decided to go after a piece of the Wii Pie with Kinect on the 360 and alienated the core audience that made the platform a success in the process.
They've been as unsure about themselves and their brand identity as the punters have ever since.
@Danloaded From the Xbox devoted, yes.
Fable is all I’m interested in. Also, kinda crazy for them to spend so much for ActiBlizz only to have all the games be on PlayStation anyway. But I guess now they get paid on all the sales so…
Will be interesting to see if COD BO6 and others get Pro optimisation.
I can’t see why Xbox wouldn’t because if they are going to try and sell games they need to be at there best over on PS5 and Pro
Bad news, I preordered the PS5 Pro just so I could enjoy these Xbox titles since there are no alternatives on Sony's platform
@get2sammyb I'd argue it's normal for a company the size of Microsoft to not know what's it's doing, and that matches their history.
They have so many different people, so many different interests and directions and incentives, and inertia and plans that they get pulled in one direction and another constantly, and they don't have the focus to truly know what they're doing at any one moment.
Did Google know what it was doing when it built 13 separate messaging apps, often competing with each other, and then closed most of them down? Not really.
They had three or four different divisions within Google that independently made decisions to make messaging apps all based on different motives, and the overall direction was created by whichever division the exec on top had happened to be promoted from this time.
This will they won't they is daft and does nothing but sow confusion amongst their install base. They would be better off pulling the band aid off and setting out exactly what the plan is. It will be better for them in the long run
Surely they haven't run out of games to port already?!!?!
@ThomasHL I suppose you're right. Definitely see your point!
@Rob_230 How it would be better exactly?
How it would be smart for Microsoft to say "all first-party games will come to PlayStation 5 12 months after Xbox release?" What if they then decide that it won't happen? People will then bitch that they cancelled their plans.
By keeping things internal, they are allowing themselves flexibility. They can adapt to numbers and situation on the market. If you will say something definitive, people will hold you to that promise. I would argue it's dumbest thing they can do.
And if you are Xbox user (PC or console), why do you even need to know that? You are 100% getting all first-party games and into Game Pass. Xbox has no obligation towards PlayStation users. They will get games Microsoft will decide they are going to get in time Microsoft will decide is appropriate. If you are "switching platforms" you can burn yourself. But it's your problem at the end of the day.
It's same thing with Sony and PC ports. PC players expect that all games will come, but there is no 100% guarantee (like Demon's Souls for example). So they just need to wait. Sometimes it's 1 year, sometimes it's day one, sometimes it's never. Because Sony has no obligations toward PC players.
Sometimes I have a feeling that "all Xbox games will come to PlayStation" is statement that PlayStation fans are wishing into existence and projecting onto Xbox. Because Xbox have never said that. They just said "more games will come." Which is kinda huge difference.
@Xbox_Dashboard I don't believe he was actually responding to the rumor. The rumor started but he probably had this report written for some time and it just so happened to reveal information that contradicts the rumor. At least that's how I understand it.
Just give me Avowed you cowards, finished the Pillars of Eternity games and itching to get back in that world. 😃
I wonder if these ‘insiders’ actually have real life activities to do instead of spread false info whenever the time is right for them? One day it’s being mentioned everything is on hold and then the next, the main man at Microsoft is out inadvertently refuting rumours. I guess it does do one thing though, Satyas statement helps to dispel rumours as quickly as they appear and helps to reduce info that encroaches on their obvious move over to being a 3rd party developer. Personally there isn’t too much over at Microsoft that I would be desperate to play on PlayStation. I’m not really a Halo fan, I played enough of Gears of War back in the day, but I certainly do like the Forza Horizon games (especially 4). Apart from that and the already released Sea of Thieves, everything that is genuinely exclusive to Xbox or always has been is not really my kind of gaming anymore.
The Xbox fanboys are still in denial. Xbox is going third party, the Activision purchase put a massive spot light on the division, they have to start generating massive profits and they're not going to do it with gamepass alone.
Personally all I'd be interested in from them is a hypothetical Oblivion re-release and Rare Replay
"Finally, we brought four of our fan-favorite titles to Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation for the first time, as we continue to extend our content to new platforms," he writes, not before stating Microsoft's intention to bring "great games to more people on more devices".
There is nothing he said there (repeating the same thing twice dosen't make it more believable either) that says any other games will be going to Sony or Nintendo, just they will be going to more devices with Gamepass as they have recently been doing)
Most here always says Microsoft is all about Gamepass but suddenly they do a complete turn every time Microsoft mention anything about games on other devices!.
Xbox games going to PlayStation, PlayStation games going to PC. Somehow it’s all coming full circle
@Meowmixes98 I hate to say it, but Starfield is a colossal waste of anyone's time. It's just lame in every way.
I could see a situation where the lineup could make it look like things are slowing down but they're not really. For example if for the 1st half of 2025, you had:
Fallout 3 and Oblivion are PS3 games, Indiana Jones and DOOM The Dark Ages were announced for PS5 this year which would leave Flight Sim 2024 as the only Xbox exclusive to be announced for release in that time window.
But I absolutely don't believe that the backlash from the Xbox community over the Indiana Jones PS5 reveal would have any effect.
Hope Forza (4 not 5) Killer Instinct and Sunset Overdrive come to ps5
@ThomasHL Somehow I doubt Nadella will change his mind. Xbox's leadership have been winging it for so long that he said "enough is enough, this is how it will be from now on."
Forza Horizon 5 and Halo MCC is all I need
@Jrs1 Forza Horizon 4 makes sense if it is for the singleplayer, but Forza Horizon 5 is their current live service game, which makes more sense. I really doubt they will bring FH4 so soon for Playstation, but FH5 is a more realistic possibility.
@Vault_Mcfly Forza 5 is crap compared to 4
I really hope Hexic HD comes to PlayStation
Didn't bother me games going across but saw lots of negativity n get it makes sense as if all Xbox games go guesss some will jump to ps. Just need to get all exclusives as timed exclusives form both sides then No1 would jump ship n both sides would just make more money and we all could play all games 😎 one day maybe fingers crossed 🤞🤣
@Decimateh-xblz Good diplomacy there i like it 😀👍
Nadella never refutes the leakers point that they are slowing down. Just because he says more are coming doesn’t mean that a ton are suddenly going to pop up. Both can be true, as the leaker himself has been explaining since. Neither pause or slow down means stop. This isn’t a story.
This the same leaker who always gets PS Plus games right. He’s one of the more reliable leakers.
That Indiana Jones game had better hit. Us PlayStation-only folks are going to have a good few months to get reviews, let's plays, streams, etc, and decide whether its worth our time.
@get2sammyb
I may be well off the mark, but the reason I think they dont know what they are doing is that their Xbox division leadership know putting their games on PS5 is very bad for their brand and are resisting hard - Microsoft on the other hand are tired of pouring money in to xbox in the form of aquisitions etc without return, so are forcing it, to improve shareholder returns.
Regardless of what platforms these are coming to, it just means having an Xbox is becoming more and more pointless as time goes on.
Expect Series S to be down to ludicrously low prices again this Christmas...
I'd be happy if they just brought the titles that were always going to be multi-platform to Playstation. Instead of trying to force people into their eco-system, they could actually just let it stand on its own. But this is MS and all they want is to starve the competition so players have nowhere else to go and then they can harvest all that lovely information we provide to fuel their AI expansion. It wouldn't be so bad if they actually had any interest in gaming itself and not just the data it provides.
@get2sammyb it’s easy to see what they are doing. Bringing games to fire stick, cloud and PS5 and Switch. As they should. Imagine the hate if MS bought ABK and Bethesda and said PS users will never get these games again. That is just bad business sense for them and us the gamers. However it has been hinted that Halo, Gears and Forza are not coming to other platforms. Also smart as those are the games people buy a Xbox for. For as much chatter as the internet has about ALL the games are coming to PS5. I still only see just 4. But of course when a new Fallout or Tony Hawk or elder scrolls come out, those should be on PS and others. They were before and they should be now. Until we see Halo coming to PS, i would hold back on sounding the horn. I forgot to mention the deal with Samsung TV’s, they count those as platforms.
@get2sammyb To simplify things even though @ThomasHL spelled it out very well.
We have a “leak” about “A leaker who goes by eXtas1s recently claimed that Project Latitude — Xbox's plan to release first-party titles on Nintendo and Sony platforms — is "paused" or "slowed down"”
Any Xbox plan would be Phil Spencer’s plan.
Then we have the CEO of Microsoft putting in writing what his plans are, which are MS plans.
I know MS owns Xbox but Phil and Satya are 2 different people. Possibly very different people. Phil is all about gaming and Satya is all about making money by making people upgrade their PCs b/c he won’t let Windows 11 run on most PCs out there even though we all know it can.🤑
@Jrs1 @Vault_Mcfly Unfortunately 4 won't get ported because it is getting delisted at the end of the year due to licensing deals expiring.
@Danloaded It was not a respone to getting the game, more the way it was announced. It was at the end of a big XB showcase into Indy where they gave the announce date and the big final tease was "you can also play this on PS5 just 3 months later"
It was just a terrible way to announce it and soured a lot of XB fans at an XB event and I get why it bothered people. It should probably have been 6 months, and would have been better announcing it the next day in a simple press release.
It's why faith in the XB platform is at an all time low as their words and actions are not aligning. They are sending a very strong message that the focus is Xbox game studies as a publisher who just want games on as many platforms as possible. Whilst saying they are not abandoning the platform but also not giving fans much confidence that the platform is their main concern.
Other than the Forza Games I have absolutely no interest in any of them
If I really wanted to play them I'd buy myself an Xbox.
I struggle to find time to play everything I want to play on my PS5 & Nintendo Switch as it is
@rjejr Flyby11... your PC can run Windows 11 with a litle help from that handy tool.
I'm not a big fan of leakers, and this to me just strikes as the most obvious position, thus feels to me like a classic leaker guess rather than an actual leak.
If I was to guess, yeah, I'd say they'd avoid porting Halo and Gears because they're synonymous with Xbox.
@Bigmanfan Aye ah read that, couldve done a quick port tho (wishful thinking)
@Mostik as somebody who owns all 3 consoles, I think it was more the timing and the nature of the announcement, as opposed to it being on PS5... very tone deaf announcement from MS
@Dimey Nice one buddy, that does make sense 👍
Probably would have been less controversial to announce it a month or so after it released on Xbox, your right, not sure why they announced it ahead of time!
I think the Xbox console is finished as a viable proposition, at some point down the line the people in charge of the money will be wondering why they're making millions selling COD on Playstation but not Halo
@Czar_Khastik Space Marine 2 is pretty Gearsish.
Keep your Gears and Halo. Give me State of Decay, Avowed, and Perfect Dark and I'll be ecstatic.
They should make a new midtown or motorcross madness. Give me the Forza horizon games and I am good.
@MasterChiefWiggum Yes, it is. I own it, but I have yet to play it and I'm greatly looking forward to serving the empire
I don't care at all about Halo. It was good but after 3 it went downhill. Gears of War 1-3 was the only exclusives I wanted ported.
Nadella statement goes live on the release of Call of Duty Black OPs 6 on multiple platforms & his statement mentions cloud gaming which next month will allow paid games from the Xbox store to be playable on any device with a screen, WiFi, Bluetooth & a web browser. They also have a mobile store releasing next month on Android/IOS.
So the rumor that Microsoft learned from Indiana Jones announcement could still be true. But it's Microsoft. Anything is possible.
I get the feeling the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing at XBox, and that doesn’t even count the Head, Legs and Bum into the equation.
One day something will really happen and we’ll know that it happened.
Seems Microsoft don’t really know the best way forward.
@AhmadSumadi Not sure yet about the new game in development, but I'd love to see the original Fable trilogy remastered for PS5.
@Americansamurai1 They won't be going third party in my opinion. I think the next gen of consoles will be the last and both Sony and Microsoft will move away from dedicated hardware. It will save them both huge R&D and manufacturing costs and I think we'll see third party manufacturers making generic hardware that can download and play games from the PS store and Xbox store. Pretty much like a set top PC or an ROG Ally without a screen.
I think we're at a point in the industry where neither Sony or Microsoft know exactly what they're doing. The next few years will see some huge changes in the traditional console business model and they're both testing the waters with different strategies.
Does anyone really believe that Lego Horizon will be the last game Sony releases on a rival platform if it sells well???
@Soik It was the catalyst for me to box up my Series X and sell it.
@__jamiie Sony I don't see going away from hardware, unlike Microsoft they do make profit on their hardware. They want dedicated hard so that you have to use their store front. Psn makes more then steam, they're going to keep it going as long as possible. Microsoft has crippled their store front due to gamepass, they've trained their audience not to buy games.
@carlos82 I just don't understand XBOX and their decisions. I'm as loyal an XBOX owner as there is, without being a console warrior. I built up my library on the platform, but don't understand why you would make your exclusives multi-platform... Having exclusives is the reason I also own a Switch, and the sole reason I bought a PS5 last week, to play God of War, etc etc.
Surely if XBOX announced that they would keep more of these games moving forwards and the huge slate of games they have in development as exclusives, and actually done some advertising, they could have shifted some consoles?
But what do I know.
Surely they have some sort of plan haha?
@MrPeanutbutterz I've not gone this far as I still have 30 or so games to play on my XBOX (yes folks, some XBOX owners still buy their games)... but it did push me to buying a PS5!
@Dimey I don't get what they're doing these days and I suspect they don't really have a plan either. I've played on every Xbox generation but have recently sold my Series X as there's little point in me having it anymore.
A world where the Xbox consoles can't compete with Sony, isn't good for players on either side
@carlos82 Agreed, competition is good!
I love my Series X, it'll still be my main console, but I do worry about all the money I've spent on a digital library moving forward!!
Also, love the avatar, Sega Rally one of my all time fave games, all I played on my Saturn in the mid 90's!!
I’m glad Indy is coming to PS, don’t remember any sour feedback for that.
Would also be interested in forza and perfect dark just incase you’re listening MS!
@Dodoo I could see Perfect Dark coming across, less so Forza
Microsoft really needs to clean house in the Xbox division.
"Microsoft CEO Says More Xbox Games Will Come to PS5"
No he didn't.
I think there will be others, but he never actually said that.
@rjejr I think this idea that Phil Spencer is "all about gaming" and not money, is pretty simplistic. I think Phil can be both... but he's definitely also worried about money. The issue is - can there be a difference of opinion on how the money is made... and that's a definite yes. As to who wins out... that's a different question.
The only game I’m interested in, is Forza. Once that comes over ima sell my Xbox
@Dimey Power to you, there's some amazing games on there. Heck, I kinda lament the fact I didn't finish my Metal Gear Rising Revengeance replay before I sold it, but I did have a moment of "wait, I bought another 500 bucks console to replay Xbox 360 games at 60FPS?!" moment.
Caveat - a buddy was looking to buy a Series X at the same price I was happy to sell for, so I said "fudge it, I don't play it much anyways" and did both of us a solid.
Just stop making hardware and focus on making games for all the systems out there.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare "As to who wins out..."
See my reply below. 😉
@Ilyn "that handy tool"
Is that what the kids are calling Phil Spencer?😂
@Dimey yeah agreed though reckon MS will want to cash in on one of the forza’s. Maybe an older title or one the Horizons.
Or am I just dreaming?!
Yeah ok MS were going to slow down because Xbox players were salty 🙄 MS knew full well Xbox players were never going to be ok with this so i doubt they care over how Xbox players feel especially when so far the ports have done well on PS5 especially Sea of Thieves.
Awww, too bad, i wouldn't mind gears of war on ps, fun games.
The saddest thing is that there is not another game I’d actually want to have on PS besides Hi-fi Rush 😅 maybe Forza Horizon but that’s it. Oh well! I am sure there will be more waves of ports - I am actually sorry for their “fans” as the writing is pretty clear on the wall…
I'd be thrilled if e-day makes it's way to playstation, it's the only upcoming game they have that interests me (outside of doom the dark ages).
I wouldn't say no to the MCC though.
Will they won’t they. All I want for Christmas is Gears Of War collection 🤞
It makes swns9for Xbox to out as many games on ps5 and Nintendo as possible. You've got the great deal that is gamepass to draw people into the Xbox ecosystem then hopefully a next gen Xbox as they don't seem to be doing the refresh.
Then make up a wedge of money from sales on other platforms. Its a win all round really for MS and a win for people on all consoles and pc
@Nei I mean they're pretty kcuh the biggest publisher in the world and have already said they're doing another Console and gamepass so it's not like they're going anywhere
@Dodoo if they do I'd imagine it would have to be the current game, as with licensing in car games, older games get delisted regularly?
@Jacko11 halo needs to be on Sony and Nintendo machines as he transcends video games.
The next Xbox (Nextbox?!) they release will be the first I don't buy. Don't see the point.
I'm fine with masterchief collection 1-3 and gears of war 1-3 on ps5, that's the game I missed when I sold my series s/x months ago. Still have my xbox 360 but I didn't know if it's still works or not.
@ThomasHL Really feels like it. Oh let's port games.....hmm maybe not....but it makes money....but not enough.....let's not port......hmmmm maybe we should port.
This whole back and forth is so annoying. I wish Microsoft would figure out what it wants to do with xbox quickly. I want xbox plystation and nintendo to be at their best.
Halo, flight simulator, and Forza Horizon all with an update on ps5 pro to do Dolby Vision ✌️💪
Would love to play the Ori games on PS5.
@LowDefAl They got Blizzard in that acquisition, even with a dip in subs, WoW still makes enough monthly to be considered a money printer. They're likely not hurting too badly to make the money back from gobbling up other companies with that in their back pocket
@Americansamurai1 I agree with you fully, especially about then training people not to buy games. That's something people really need to take note of from these past 2 generations: after we found out the plan for the PS4 and One, and we buckled down and said we wanted physical media still, to the point of a near boycott, both companies spent a lot of time going the long way around to teach us how to love the thing we didn't want. Both just took very different paths to get there, where Microsoft basically did away with their hardware in the process and simply became a platform.
Sunset Overdrive? I know, not likely to happen but I choose to dream.
@Stickleman and believe me, I am glad for that, but I think their impactful days as a force in the console space are coming to an end. They will release a new console but how many will buy it? When games are coming out on the rival platform the choice seems pretty obvious …they will transition to publisher in a a few years
@Dimey ah yes you’re probably right I hadn’t thought of the licensing issue. Well the latest game would be welcome at least!
I'm not interested with any Xbox games except Doom and this franchise used to be multiplat until MS came in and bought Bethesda.
Not sure how people are selling their Xbox’s when quick resume is literally the goat feature (for a dad of 2 like me at least!).
Anyway I personally want them to stop the ports. It’s not about excluding people. It is great that more get to play. But I love having each of the consoles for the different games they have. It’s a first-world problem (as most gaming issues are) but still.
That said, I don’t care about ABK; they may as well keep that multiplatform and get the revenue. That would have been a great driver in itself in order to pay for the XGS and potentially Zenimax staying exclusive.
I really just think this is all going in the wrong direction and we will end up with Sony monopolising in the console space in a way that really harms the consumer.
I get that i’m in the minority especially on this website but I would say careful what you wish for.
Personally think it would have been great if more were supporting Xbox.
you have to have at least a few console-exclusives to attract people to your box and to differentiate your box from the other guys. My thoughts on Microsoft's new strategy have always been that traditionally multiplatform games such as Doom, Call of Duty, Diablo etc were always going to remain multiplatform. Games like Sea of Thieves makes sense as the more players the better. Grounded, Hifi Rush and Pentiment are all such minor titles, no one really associated them with Xbox in the first place. Huge licensed properties such as Indiana Jones - makes sense that it's also going over to PS5. However, tentpole or flagship Xbox franchises such as Halo, Gears, Fable, Forza will NOT be released on rival consoles. The day that happens would truly be the day the Xbox brand as a console would die.
